Description

This piece is a stylized Maori Hei matau or fish hook, I gave this piece a more modern design to an old style and shape to give it a beautiful cross of old and new this Hei Matau is truly unique.
This Taonga has been carved by hand as are all my pieces, and is one of a kind, the multi layer of this piece gives it a really different look.
The Hei Matau or fish hook is a symbol that is common among all pacific cultures, bone hooks were used to catch fish and with being able to catch fish the hook became a symbol of prosperity and abundance.
A Maori myth is that the Maori god Maui used a bone hook to fish up Aotearoa(New Zealand) from the sea.
It is often worn by travelers and those with respect for the ocean and its creatures ,This would be a great gift or to keep as something special, it has been polished to a glass like finish and is very smooth to the touch.

The thread used for all my pieces is made of heavy duty waxed polyester and is of the highest quality and hand plaited by me.
As well as being water proof and long lasting it is also soft on the skin and comfortable to wear for long periods at a time.
Comes with a easy sliding adjustable necklace to fit all sizes and can be worn short or long.

Length: 5cm-/ 1.5 inches
Width:3cm-/ 1 inch
